West Madison Street Redevelopment District

The West Madison Street Redevelopment District was created in 1999. Another small redevelopment district, this area focused on two blocks of private parcels. Much of the effort was focused on acquiring the properties, relocating people and businesses, and zoning the properties for commercial development. The area is now home to the West Riverside Office Building.

In 2011 a plan was created under the name “West Riverside District Plan” which included plans for both the W. Madison St area, and the Cannery District Area. These would later be separated. The plan called for extensive investment into the areas infrastructure, including use of the blooming public-private model that would later be modeled by the Phoenix Park area. The Cannery Redevelopment District was born out of these efforts.
